The Grenoble Traffic Lab (GTL) is an experimental platform for real-time collection of traffic data coming from a dense network of wireless sensors installed in the south ring of Grenoble (Rocade Sud in French), direction east-west from A41 to A480. The main components of GTL are:
- 130 magneto-resistive sensors over the 10.5 km two-lane highway (26 collection points);
- a database;
- a show room;
- a suite of traffic estimation and forecasting algorithms.
The sensors provide macroscopic traffic measurements such as flow [veh./h], speed [km/h], occupancy [%], and magnetic signatures. The sensors were put in place in collaboration with Inria spin-off Karrus-ITS, the local traffic authorities (DIR-CE, CG38, La Métro), and specialised traffic research centers. GTL is an important platform for testing new traffic estimation, forecasting and control algorithms with real-time data
